erasing unpairs bluetooth

the erase device option wipes your beacon's stored bluetooth pairing. if it's paired with your phone, you'll need to forget it in your phone's bluetooth settings and pair again afterward. a normal update (erase off) keeps the pairing, and your logs and settings, intact.

FIRMWARE

flash the beacon.

new firmware, straight from your browser, no tools to install. plug the beacon into a computer over USB-C, open this page in chrome or edge, and click once. your unit shipped with the latest, so most days there's nothing to do here.

! browser flashing uses the web serial API, so this works in chrome or edge on a desktop. safari, firefox, and phones can't talk to USB, so they won't work. connect the beacon by USB-C.
update your beacon

flashes the latest beacon firmware over USB-C. your logs, pairing, and settings are kept unless you tick "erase" in the next step. it takes a couple of minutes.

the beacon flasher goes live when the first units ship. until then, the firmware lives in the repo.
the beacon is a passive detector. it listens for the broadcasts surveillance gear already puts in the air; the detection side never transmits, jams, or spoofs. the firmware is open source, read every line before you trust it.
before you flash, don't interrupt it
  • flash on a stable internet connection. the firmware downloads as it writes, so a dropped connection mid-flash can leave it half-written.
  • leave the beacon plugged in and don't close this tab until it says done. do not unplug it, power it off, or let your computer sleep during the flash.
  • if a flash is interrupted, the beacon may not boot until you simply run the flasher again, it's recoverable, but don't count on a half-flash working.
WHAT HAPPENS
01plug the beacon into your computer with a USB-C cable. the slim model is on the moment it has power; on the battery model, slide the switch on.
02click flash the beacon above, then pick the beacon's port when the browser asks.
03let it run. when it finishes, the beacon reboots on the new firmware, and your phone reconnects on its own.
built one yourself? if you assembled a beacon from the open firmware, this page flashes the main chip only. the bluetooth co-processor is flashed once, on its own, before the board is closed up, see the build docs in the repo. for a finished beacon you bought, ignore this, it's already handled.
